What is Dual Diagnosis?
A dual diagnosis is when both an addiction and a psychiatric condition occur at the same time. Over half of all people struggling with drug or alcohol addiction are simultaneously coping with mental health illnesses. Many of these people are using drugs or alcohol to self-medicate and not properly dealing with the issues. Our clinical team addresses dual diagnosis clients with an integrated look at the whole person, not just symptoms, giving them healthy tools for lasting recovery.

Overcoming drug or alcohol addiction can be very challenging. Trying to break free of the addiction without proper medical guidance can even be fatal. We ensure our dual diagnosis clients have a treatment program focusing on their unique needs so that they can overcome addiction safely and avoid relapse. Sudden abstinence from the addictive substance may result in manifestation of severe or moderate withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms are different for different substances; though there are certain behavioral and physical changes clients can look out for to determine whether or not they or their loved one is suffering from addiction withdrawal. Common changes that may be observed are:
- Panic attacks
- Difficulty concentrating
- Short-term memory loss
- Disturbed sleep
- Heart palpitations
- Muscle pain and stiffness
- Irregular heart rate
Recovery can be painful for individuals addicted to certain drugs such as methadone, heroin, etc. Under the watchful eye of our accomplished team of clinicians and nurses, we make sure that our clients learn to control their urges and regain control of their lives. We combine medication, healthy diet, music therapy, meditation, yoga and other methods to make the client’s treatment successful. We incorporate several beachside activities to ensure that the treatment procedure is fun and enjoyable.
Our residential treatment typically lasts for 30-60 days, depending on the severity of the addiction.
